Text: Matthew 6:10, 1 John 2:17
By: Bro. Sunny Ogumor
Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
1 John 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
God created the heavens and the earth and all things therein. We his creation did not add any suggestion to His creating us, God is the potter, He has the power over the clay.
Rom. 9:21 Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?
He gave us all the wisdom to live comfortably here on earth. He expected us to do His will. To obey Him and do His will but the devil looking for equal right and supremacy with God put a barrier between us and God.
He has refused to do the will of God in heaven and he was cast out.
Isaiah 14:12-15 How are thou fallen from heaven o’ lucifer.
Revelation 12:7-12 And there was war in heaven, the devil was no longer doing the will of God in heaven and he was cast out. Woe unto the inhabitants of the earth the devil has come to you.
Jesus Christ the only begotten Son agreed to come to earth and redeem mankind from the bondage.
He saw that there are hypocrisies everywhere, the inside did not match the outside appearance.
The body of the kettle is shining but the inside is lack of care.
Some workers put up a good appearance at workplace, good clothes, good laugh, good courtesy and fake dedication to duty, they are working same time looking for incentives outside their pay, sales men and women hiding materials in their body to take home for their use, destroying evidence of accountability.
Managers inflating figures by adding zero and all that to benefit them.
They are everywhere also in the church doing their own will, pretending to serve humanity as doing God’s will.
They are servicing their own pocket and belly.
You, cannot fake behaviors to impress Jesus Christ. When Jesus saw that hypocrisy was everywhere He then taught his disciples how they should pray.
Matthew 6:9-13, as it is today you cannot pray for what you have already got, one of the prayer points is “Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven’’ that is to say the host of heaven are doing the will of God and so it is expected of us here on earth.
Thy Kingdom Come
Mark 9:1 And He said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.
Kingdom To Come With Power
On Pentecost day everything changed Acts 2:1-4. And the Holy Spirit gave them power to proclaim the gospel.
And God translated us from the power of darkness into the kingdom of his dear son Colossians 1:13.
And this kingdom will be delivered up to God at the end of time.
1 Corinthians 15:24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.
What Does It Take To Know The Will Of God? Romans 12:2
Unbelievers searched but they cannot find, they look but they cannot see, they are blind to the truth, Romans 1:28 And, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.
Looking For The Will Of God
Looking For A Way Out
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
That kingdom that will be handed over to God at the end of time, that kingdom that will be delivered to God at the end of time.
That exercise that you want to be part of, you must do the will of God first. Thank, you for coming to church today, that promise is for me and you.
The Will
Power to make decisions who is holding it.
In our employment, in our buying and selling, in government (tax and rates who fix).
In our life endeavors; God is completely in charge His will must prevail in all circumstances.
In sickness in health, in poverty in wealth, in mourning in rejoicing, etc.
To pray “thy will be done” is a commitment to knowing God’s will as it is revealed in His word.
Naturally it follows, that if we are going to know the will of God in our everyday affairs, we have to look deep into the scriptures.
Are you conversant with the Bible? Study to show yourself a workman that rightly divide the word of truth.
Do not forsake the assembly of the saint together as the manner of some is Hebrews10:25, that is where you start from.
To Submit To The Will Of God
It is our privilege to submit to that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
At the back of all our failure is the desire to have our way not His way.
Then, for your own comfort’s sake, and for the sake of your growth in grace, if you be a Christian, be a Christian, and be a marked and distinct one.
Romans12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.
The Holy confidence in God as a Father and the fear of him as a Judge agree together.
To regard God always as a Judge makes Him dear to us as a Father. If believers do evil God will visit them with corrections.
When Is Your Decision God’s Will?
At some point in your life, you have probably faced a major decision and wondered how to know which option to choose.
Some instructions concerning God’s will are clear. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality and 1 Thessalonians 5:18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Others are not clear, who should I marry, which school should I attend, should I take this new job offer.
If you have a relationship with God, and take your request to him in prayer you have the hope that you were doing what God wanted you to do.
He wants us to be persistent in seeking His guidance. As you take steps of faith and learn to recognize His leading role, you grow spiritually and strengthen your relationship with Him. It is not always a simple process, but in the end, it worth’s it. Seek ye first His kingdom.
Paul, to the church in Colossae said: “We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better” (Colossians 1:9-10, NLT).
The Sovereign Will Of God
When God states that something will happen, it does. No person could have stopped Jesus from dying on the cross for the sins of the world. That was God’s will, and it came to pass.
He could have called ten thousand Angels to destroy the world and set him free. But he died alone for me and you.
Matthew 26:39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will. Matthew 26:42 Again a second time He went away and prayed, My Father, if this cannot pass by unless I drink it. Your will be done.
In times of uncertainty, remember that you are the child of God and his will should prevail.
Believe that nothing can separate you from His love.
Paul put it this way: “I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39, NIV).
Surrender your personal desires as you seek God’s will, it’s important to be sure you are fully open to whatever God wants. Meditate on God’s Word. His word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. The Bible can light the way as you choose your next steps.
CONCLUSION
The things of the world quickly fade and die away, desire itself will long ago fail and cease, but holy affection is not like the lust that passes away.
The love of God shall never fail. Many have tried to show how far we may be carnally-minded, and love the world but the plain meaning of God’s will cannot easily be mistaken.
Unless this victory over the world is begun in the heart, a man has no root in himself, but will fall away, or at most remain an unfruitful.
Yet these vanities are so attractive to the corruption in our hearts, that without constant watching and prayer we cannot escape the world or obtain victory over Satan the devil.
1 John 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
