God’s ways are as mysterious as Himself. A God who has no beginning or end; yet He is the beginning and the end. A God who was not created by any other one. God exists in Himself. He does not derive His life from any other being. The Creator of all things- both visible and invisible. He is everywhere at the same time (OMNIPRESENT)-Ps. 139:7-10. He knows what is in everyone’s mind at the same time. He sees everyone and everything at the same time. He knows everything (OMNISCIENT)-Dan. 2:22, Ps. 139:11-12, Isa. 29:15, Jer. 23:24. He has unlimited power –OMNIPOTENT (Jer. 32:17, 27, Isa. 59:1, 50:2). He spoke the whole world and heavenly hosts into existence with words of His mouth (Gen. 1:1-25). A God who is consisted of three personalities-Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. He is in oneness with His Son and the Holy Spirit. He shows His mercy and favour to whomsoever He wants. He is a loving, caring and merciful God, and at the same time, a consuming fire. He hangs the earth and other celestial bodies upon nothing. No one can see God and live. He never sleeps (Job 11:7).

The Psalmist declares, “Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.” (Ps. 145:3).

Mankind cannot comprehend God, His ways and actions fully. The much we have known about Him and His ways is a tip of the iceberg. God is infinite and we are finite.

The Psalmist also admitted, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.” (Ps. 139:6).

He added in Ps. 92:5 thus: “O LORD, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep.”

God’s understanding is unsearchable.  Isaiah states, “hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding.” (Isa. 40:28).

God’s works are equally incomprehensible. “As thou knowest not what is the way of the  spirit, nor how the bones grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.” (Eccl. 11:5). Job confirmed in Job 9:10 as follow: “Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.”

We cannot understand everything God is doing, as Solomon wrote that, “He hath made every thing beautiful in his time…” (Eccl. 3:11).

The fact that His ways are past finding out is the cause for much frustration in our Christian walk. We want to find out God’s ways. We want to know what He is thinking when He allows certain things to happen. But as God told Isaiah, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isa. 55:8-9).

Nothing ever occurred or dawned on God. God is never surprised because He can see around the corners of time. God is working out a plan that we are not privy to. We can only understand His will as it is unveiled day by day. Though at times we don’t understand the dark valleys He leads us through, once we reach the mountaintop and look back, we will see the path that led us there. And we will understand what He was doing. We’ll understand that we could never have reached the heights if we had not first come through the depths. Eccl. 8:14-17.
