  • Humans naturally have the need to feel socially connected to others and constantly strive to do so.
  • Nobody wants to be left out or disconnected. The rise of various social media platforms is to satisfy this urge to be connected to millions of other people across different parts of the world. We all want to know the latest story; want to be seen by others; want to trend.

It is not that bad to want to be connected to people or things around you, but most times in our pursuit of this connections, we forget our to be connected to God.

  • We must strive to always remain connected to God because he is our SOURCE.

Acts 17:24-28 (NIV)

24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands.

25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.

26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.

27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring’.

Two Main Things That Disconnects Us From God

  • CARES OF THE WORLD

Matthew 6:24 (ESV)

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other…

James 4:4 (ESV)

Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Five Ways to Remain Connected to God

  • PRAYERFUL LIFE

Prayer is our communication channel to God, and has assured us that he will hear us when we pray (Matt 7:7).

  • FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD’S PEOPLE

When we fellowship, we are not just sharing the fellowship with ourselves, but with God; because he promised that when 2 or 3 are gathered in His name, he will always be there. (Matt 18.20).

  • PRACTICE GRATITUDE (BE THANKFUL)

God despises ungratefulness and caused only 2 adult Israelites who left Egypt to enter the promised land because of the ingratitude of many of them (1Cor. 10:10).

  • SERVING OTHERS

James 1:27

“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”

  • OBEDIENCE

Disobedience was the reason Adam and Eve lost their close connection to God in the garden of Eden. The moment Saul started disobeying God, the Spirit of God left him.

Conclusion

Revelations 3:20

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with me.”
