“IT IS NOT EASY” THE CHOICE I MADE (SONG), BY LUCKY DUBE
The singer recalled the happy moment he called his mother on the telephone to announce his marriage plans. She was smiling on the other side of the telephone and asked a question, son, did you take time to get to know her. He proudly answered, “she is the best.”
Fear years later, he faced the heartache of divorce/broken heart and acknowledged that his “choice of wife” didn’t work out the way he envisaged.
He called his mother to inform her that the “choice he made hut him so much” The choice didn’t work out the way he thought it would be. The choice left him heart broken, chartered dreams and lingering pains.
The mother offers her comforting words by saying, “It’s not easy to understand it son, but I hope you’ll make it, you’ll be happy again”.
The song highlights the deep disappointment, broken heart/dreams and lingering pains of wrong marriage choice.
CHOICE: An act of choosing between two or more options.
- Life is a journey of decisions. Every step we take is influenced by a choice.
- Some choices are small (what to eat, wear, or say), but others are life-defining (who to serve, who to marry, what path to follow, career to chose etc).
- Some choice can lead to regret, guilt, wrong wife/husband, chances for personal growth, career deveopment etc.
- The most important decision anyone can make is choosing God over the world.

- The Power of Choice
- God did not create us as robots; He gave man freedom to make choices. ( 30:19)
- Every choice comes with responsibility and consequences. Adam’s choice affected all mankind (Romans 5:12).
- Our choices can shape our character, determine our destiny, influence or affect generations positively or negatively.
- But the most important choice anyone can ever make is the choice of who to serve (God or the world, Christ or self)
Joshua stood before Israel and declared his own stand: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” His statement reminds us that we all must make right decision at the right time.
- The Right Choice Brings Life
- Some choices we make shapes our future and destiny positively
- The right choice may not always be the easiest, but it always leads to life and blessing.
- Abraham’s choice to follow God brought blessings to nations (Genesis 12:1–3)
- Joshua made the choice to serve God, and he declared it boldly.
- Our choice of being a Christian is not by chance but by choice for eternal life (1 John 5:11–12).
- Today, God still place before us the choice between life and death, blessing and cursing.
- The Wrong Choice Brings Regret and pains
A wrong choice can lead to regret, guilt, stress, wasted effort, time and
It can also result to losing chances for personal growth, career advancement or favourable lifestyle.
Choices against God may look profitable at that moment but lead to destruction. (Prov. 14:12)
Examples:
- Ananias and Sapphira choose lies and resulted in their death.
- Demas chose worldliness over faithfulness to Christ, he lost chances of eternal reward.
- Samson made the wrong choice of a woman (Delilah) and he lost his strength.
- King Saul chose disobedience, and he lost his kingdom and God’s Spirit departed from him. (1 Sam. 15:23).
Conclusion
Serving God is not a one-time choice but a continuous and consistent decision. The choice you make today define the story of your tomorrow. Every day we must make positive choices that affect us and others. Wrong choices may look may result to failure, disappointment, discouragement, lingering pains or death.
