Theme Scripture: Isaiah 6:8 — “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

INTRODUCTION

There are two types of people in the kingdom: those who are able but not available, and those who are available, and through them, God makes ability. God is not first looking for skill — He’s looking for availability. When He finds a willing vessel, He fills it with power, wisdom, and grace to accomplish His will.

DEFINITION

  1. Availability — The state of being present, willing, and ready to be used by God. (Romans 12:1)
  2. Usability — The capacity to be useful and fit for God’s purpose. (2 Timothy 2:21)

Availability brings you into God’s plan. Usability keeps you relevant in that plan.

I. GOD USES THE AVAILABLE, NOT THE ABLE

1 Corinthians 1:27 — “God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.” Moses said, ‘I can’t speak.’ God said, ‘Who made your mouth?’ Gideon said, ‘I’m the least.’ God said, ‘I’ll go with you.’ Mary said, ‘How shall this be?’ God said, ‘The Holy Ghost shall come upon you.’ God is not looking for perfection; He’s looking for surrender. He can turn an ordinary vessel into an extraordinary instrument.

Illustration: A broken pencil in the hand of a skilled writer can still write great stories — it’s not the pencil, it’s the hand that holds it. When you’re available, God writes His story through your life.

II. AVAILABILITY BEGINS WITH WILLINGNESS

Isaiah 1:19“If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.” Availability is not about what you have; it’s about your ‘yes’. Samuel said, ‘Speak Lord, for your servant hears.’ The boy with five loaves and two fishes made his small meal available — Jesus multiplied it. The widow in 2 Kings 4 brought her small oil — God filled vessels with it.

Truth: If God can find your willingness, He will supply your resources.

Application: God doesn’t need your status — He needs your yes. He can use your time, your voice, your job, your house, your talent, your heart.

III. USABILITY REQUIRES PURITY AND PREPARATION

2 Timothy 2:21“A vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the Master’s use.” It’s one thing to be available, but another to remain usable. Availability opens the door; character keeps it open. Purity makes a vessel usable. Preparation keeps you sharp for divine assignments. Ecclesiastes 10:10 — “If the axe is dull, more strength is needed.”

Illustration: A soldier may be willing to fight, but if he’s not trained, he becomes a liability on the battlefield. Willingness without preparation can lead to frustration.

Application: If you want God to use you greatly, let Him cleanse you deeply.

IV. AVAILABILITY + USABILITY = DIVINE IMPACT

Acts 9:15 — “He is a chosen vessel unto Me, to bear My name.” Paul was not the best candidate by human standards, but God found him usable. Your combination of willingness and preparation determines your kingdom impact. David, Esther, and Mary are perfect examples of lives that became unforgettable when available and usable.

V. BARRIERS TO AVAILABILITY AND USABILITY

  1. Excuses — “I can’t speak,” “I’m too young,” “I’m not ready.”
  2. Fear — Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of change.
  3. Sin and Distractions — They drain spiritual energy and hinder usefulness.
  4. Pride — When you think God needs you, you become unusable.

Prayer Point: “Lord, remove everything that makes me unavailable or unusable in Your hands.”

VI. SIGNS OF A TRULY AVAILABLE AND USABLE PERSON

Quick to respond to God’s call.
Faithful in small tasks.
Teachable and humble.
Consistent in prayer and the Word.
Willing to serve where others refuse. (Luke 16:10)

CONCLUSION

God is not searching for golden vessels or silver vessels — He’s searching for yielded vessels. He can turn a fisherman into an apostle, a slave into a savior, a housewife into a deliverer, and a mother into a nation-builder. When your life becomes fully available to God, He makes it unforgettably useful to the world.

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, make me a vessel You can trust. Empty me of excuses, fill me with Your Spirit, and prepare me for Your purpose. May I not only be available, but also usable — purified, prepared, and positioned for impact. Use me, Lord, in my family, in Your church, and in my generation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
