Matthew 25 vs 13: Watch therefore, for you know neither the day or the hour in which the son of man is coming.

The word duty refers to responsibility, obligation or task that a person is expected or required to carry out, whether by moral, legal, or spiritual standards.

In a Christian context, duty goes beyond obligation, it is a commitment to God and others. Ecclesiastes 12 vs 13: “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man”.

A Christian is always on duty, not just in the church, but in everyday life. Always living consciously for God, representing Him in words, actions, and character.

A Christian is never off responsibility in their walk with God. Just like a worker on duty must stay alert, disciplined and accountable, a Christian is always accountable for their actions because they always represent Christ.

Some Christian Obligation to Duties:

  • You must identify yourself as a Christian by your beliefs, character, and lifestyle
  • Stay committed in belief and trust in God
  • Stand firm in godly values, even under pressure.
  • Always accountable to God in thoughts, words, and actions
  • There is no “off duty” moment in representing Christ
  • Be a good example to others through character and behaviour
  • Every decision should reflect obedience to God’s Word
  • Guard against attitudes like anger, pride, and immoral living
  • Guide your behaviour in public and private place
  • Resist temptation.
  • Show love, humility, patience, and forgiveness.
  • Acting as an instrument of divine will.
  • Be an example to others in conduct.
  • Live with self-control and avoid sinful habits
  • Trust God during trials

A STORY OF A CHRISTIAN ON DUTY

When a European Airline was initially launched, an educated Christian gentleman was traveling in the first-class section.

An air hostess with a paragon of beauty and character approached him with a complimentary drink, this was an alcoholic drink, but the man politely refused. The air hostess returned but this time brought the drink on a platter, designed to appeal and impress. However, the Christian man again politely refused, explaining he doesn’t drink alcohol.

The air hostess was concerned and informed the manager. The manager approached the man with another platter, now designed with flowers. He questioned, “Is there something wrong with our service? Please enjoy the drink, it is a complimentary offer.”

The man replied, “I am a Christian and I do not drink alcohol? The manager still insisted that the man take the drink. Then, the Christian proposed that the manager should give the drink to the pilot first.

The manager stated, “How can the pilot drink alcohol, he’s on duty! And if he drinks there are all chances for the plane to crash”.

The Christian passenger with tears in his eyes, replied, “I am a Christian and I am ALWAYS on duty in order to protect my salvation and if I Drink Alcohol I will crash my whole life here and hereafter. I AM 100% ON DUTY!

Key Message:

  1. A Christian must remain steadfast in their faith and convictions at all times, regardless of pressure or temptation.
  1. Just as a pilot cannot afford to be careless while on duty, a believer must live as someone who is 100% on duty with constant awareness and discipline, knowing they are always accountable to God.

CONCLUSION

I don’t know what is keeping you off duty. But as a believers, it is our responsibility to ensure we live a life that is 100% on duty in order to protect my salvation. May give you the strength  and grace to be 100% committed to duty in Jesus name. Amen!.
