INTRODUCTION
Name is generally used for identification and anything without name seems non-existing, unknown or unrecognized. Thus, God empowered man to give names to all things HE has created (Genesis 2:19).
All of us have our different names and different things and institutions worldwide have their various names by which we and they are known or recognized. Name in human system is so important that it cannot be over emphasized.
The Name Jesus (Saviour) or Christ (The Anointed One) is the name given by the Father and thus divine and distinctive (Matthew 1:21, 16:16,17, Philippians 2:9).
The Name Jesus Christ is the greatest, highest and most powerful name in heaven, on earth and under the earth (Philippians 2:9-11, Matthew 26:18).
Every knee should bow means respect, obedience or compliance whenever the Name is mentioned or used – so it has more spiritual implications than physical – Satan, demons, human problems especially spiritual ones.
In the Old Testament Proverbs 18:10 – The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.
That Name today is Jesus Christ and the strong tower is a strong security, protection, defence or deliverance and Christians enjoy all these and more when they call upon or use the Name Jesus (Romans 10:13, Acts 22:16).
WHAT IS THE NAME USED FOR?
Salvation
The Name is used for the salvation of the soul (Acts 4:12). The Name here means as Christ authorizes or according to the gospel (Colossians 3:17, Matthew 28:18,19, Mark 16:15,16, Romans 1:15,16).
Nobody can see or go to the Father eternally without Christ (John 14:6).
Prayer
One of our commonly used spiritual weapons is prayer which is exercised in this Name to make other weapons of our warfare effective and successful (Philippians 4:6, Ephesians 6:9-18, John 14:13,14, John 16:23).
Anything Christians need or want must be asked for in the Name of Jesus Christ and any prayer without the Name of Jesus is watery.
Against Satan and Demons
The only Name Satan and his demons respect, obey and are terrified when it is used is Jesus Christ. This is because Christ has conquered them expressly and absolutely (Colossians 2:15, 1 Cor. 15:3,4).
Consequently, this is the only Name Christians can use to fight all their spiritual battles successfully (James 4:7).
Demons recognize the Name of Christ and His faithful servants (Christians)[Acts 19:15].
Against Persecution
Christ made it apparently known that His followers, Christians would be persecuted for His own Name sake (Matthew 10:17,18,22).
Apostle Paul, other apostles and the early Christians were severely persecuted for the Name of Jesus but hear what Paul said in Acts 21:13 – Then Paul answered, “What do you mean by weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the Name of the Lord Jesus.”
Brethren no matter the persecution or trial on account of this Name we must not give up for the Name for which we are being persecuted, the same we use to get complete victory over Satan and problems of life (Philippians 2:9-11).
The Name Was Used By The Apostles To Carry Out Miraculous Deliverance And Healing [Acts 3:6-9].
We can fast and pray in the Name of Jesus and deliver those who are in Satanic bondage being troubled by evil spirits) [Matthew 17:21].
Do not use the Name of Jesus for evil – God kill my enemy in Jesus Name – no, not at all.
The Name is for the good of Christians in particular and human beings generally but highly opposed to Satan, demons, sinful and wicked activities (Hebrews 2:14).
CONCLUSION
As Christians, we must live a holy life and have strong faith in the all-powerful Name of Jesus Christ to combat frontally any spiritual wickedness in high places and live a victorious life obtained for us by Christ (1 Peter 1:15, Ephesians 6:9,10, Philippians 2:9-11, John 16:33, 1 John 5:4).
