This is to agree and follow the Word as it is written for us.
The Word is the standard for the Christian life to be led always.
The Word of God is the Word, it is the written Bible, the New Testament in particular – II Timothy 3:16-17.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The written Word contains everything for us.
2 Peter 1:2-3 – Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.
We must claim no excuses, for the Word.
The Christians is the one who has agreed to obey and follow Christ’s way, no matter the situations.
The Word is the standard for the church – the pattern of worship, the leadership structure and functions are in the Word.
Therefore, what the Word teaches the church, the leadership, the members to do, should be obediently and faithfully carried out to the glory of God.
It is the duty of all Christians to study the Bible properly to understand the written Word which enables us live righteously, have sweet fellowship with one another and to lead with humility without compulsion.
The Word is Light and Lamp to our path – Psalms 119:105, John 1:4
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
The description of the Word should enjoin Christians to listen to the Word and live by the Word.
Light and Lamp brighten and allow one to see clearly and there to live right. This means that when the Word is in you and you are in the word, you would be correct and right and happy in the pathway of life continuously. The Word is truth. Know the truth and live by it.
There is always a blessing therein as anyone abides by the Word. The greatest reward is eternal life. We should stop deceiving ourselves by secretly living outside the Word.
Most of us join the crowd to live unwholesome life.
Exodus 23:2 – You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice.
Imagine the life of worldliness in our society today – are you involved?
Why should you live by the Word?
The Word is so powerful than you can imagine.
Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Word is living! The Word is God! The Word is Spirit!
John 6:63 – It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
John 1:1-3 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
God is alive! When you join yourself to the Word that is living, you will truly be alive.
Remember some men are dead even though they are living.
Those who live in the Word will be alive always.
The Word is powerful! The Word is so powerful that the world, man and all that exists came into existence by the Word, through the Word and for the Word.
Hebrews 11:3 – By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
Psalm 33:9 – For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
Hebrews 1:2 – has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds. (cf. Colossians 1:16; John 1:2).
The Christian who lives in the Word and by the Word is made powerful in the spiritual realm.
By the power of the Word in you, you can speak to situations.
Matthew 4:4, 7, 10, 11.
It is high time; Christians live by the Word to get to that level of spirituality.
The Word is sharper than any two-edged sword!
This means the Word cuts back and front of situations. The action of the Word in you is capable of treating issues in the yesterday, the present and the future.
Is there anything too difficult for Him to do? Not at all!
You can’t be scared when you live in abundance of the Word.
The Word pierce even the bone marrow!
No difficulties for the Word to penetrate or break down.
Any situation can b attacked by the Word.
No wonder the Christian is urged to be filled with the Spirit rather than wine.
Ephesians 5:18 – And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.
Yet men showed the other way round, many pretend to be too lazy when it comes to the Word. Where do you belong in this Word?
The Word divides the soul and spirit!
The soul is the intellectual and moral capacity of man and the Spirit is the unseen part of God in us.
When you live by the Word, you know easily the statements that are of the mind of God and those of men.
Why not each and everyone here embrace the Word? Some issues are wrongly resolved because we are not in the Word.
The Word is a discerner of thoughts and intents!
The wise man says the Word I hid in my heart.
The best psychologists are those who live by the Word of God.
When a Christian live by the Word, he sees, understands the motives and intents of people.
Consequently, you can’t act foolishly. Endeavour to live by the living Word. Members should demonstrate the essence of the Word in the life of the church.
How do you live by the Word?
God expects us to exercise unquestionable faith in Him.
Hebrews 11:6 – But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him
2 Corinthians 5:7 – For we walk by faith, not by sight.
HE expects us to appreciate Him in all circumstances of life.
Philippians 4:6-7 – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
By doing so, blessings that accompany the faith comes to us.
The men of faith of the old Testament and New Testament did not question God when He ordered them.
We must not question the commands God give to us to live by.
The Word is not burdensome.
1 John 5:3 – For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
The Word tells us that we receive whatever we ask from Him because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing to Him through Jesus Christ.
1 John 3:22 – And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.
Though some ask amiss to consume to lust.
James 1:2-8 – My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
We should be seeking what pleases God in our living.
We should in faith and understanding live by the Word in its raw form.
In prayerfulness, the Word to live by is always.
Ephesians 6:18
1 Thessalonians 5:17
When you don’t live by prayer you become vulnerable.
Don’t faint in prayer. Many are prayerless often time. The church should be fervent in prayers always. Fervent prayers of a righteous man avail much according to brother James.
In Matthew 6:33, seeking righteousness should be the first preoccupation.
Mind the Word first. The things of God should be first place and priority.
Yes, we should put godly activities and church activities as number one.
God must not be second place in our lives.
Rightfully exercising the Word!
The joy, blessings in the Word or its rewards are built in the Word and unless you rightfully exercise or live by the Word, you can’t attain the blessings. The Word does not return void to God.
God has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:17-18 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
We can’t be the old self. Let us reconcile with God daily.
Change is the only thing that is constant.
When the Word reprove us, we must change our ignorance, mistakes, sinfulness and adopt and adapt to His way.
Romans 5:10-11 – For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
Filter the Word to live by!
On a daily basis, the Word of God must be studied, read to be able to know which is correct.
2 Timothy 2:15 – Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Many a time, a passage is quoted, many do not open the Bible to read it, meditate on it but rely on interpretation whether right of wrong.
Hard times are here with us. Men everywhere are making merchandise of the Word.
2 Timothy 3:1 – But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.
Don’t just listen, accept but study, understand and determine the truth therein.
The prodigal son went back to the father when he came to the realization of the truth. That should be our attitude. We must put off the wrong way and move on in the direction of the Word.
Opportunity in the Word!
Ezekiel put the Word in his mouth and it was sweet in his mouth at last. When we sincerely crave for God’s true way, we find it and rejoice in it.
Who is the one here that has not surrendered to God, his or her life? God is seeking for true worshippers. You can today, only believe, repent, acknowledge Christ the Son of God and wash away your sins.
CONCLUSION
The church must live by the Word in her life to the glory of God. The leadership must lead by the Word. The Evangelist must teach the Word exactly. All members must live by the Word to attain eternal life. Let the Word be our guide always to fear and obey God. He watches over us.
God bless the Word in us – amen!
