Text: Proverbs 23:7

INTRODUCTION
We are all made up of a particular type of attitude. No matter what, everyone has an attitude that he is known for. You either have an attitude that stinks or one that scents. You either have an attitude that compels or one that repels. You either have an attitude that is positive or one that is negative. You either have an attitude that is attractive or one that is destructive. However it is, you must give out something.
Our attitude has to do with the way we think and the way we respond to our circumstances, our responsibilities, our work, our problems, our successes and failures, our personal relationships with our fellow man and our relationship with our heavenly Father. There is no area of our lives that isn’t affected by our attitude. This is why the Bible warns us over and over again about our thought life (Proverbs 23:7 7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he….)
You aren’t a loser; but if you think you are a loser, you will live like a loser. You aren’t a failure; but if you think you are a failure, you will live like a failure. You don’t really have the whole world against you; but if you think you do, you will live like a victim. You don’t really have more problems than everybody else; but if you think you do, you will live like a poor, pitiful, pathetic individual. Our choice of attitude in life and toward life is absolutely critical. Many times it is not what happens to us that determines the flow of our lives but what happens in us.
There are two aspects to consider in our quest to reflect an attractive attitude either towards God, the church, our careers, businesses, friends or families. These are the ATTRACTIVE LEADERSHIP ATTITUDE and the ATTRACTIVE SERVANTHOOD ATTITUDE.
ATTRACTIVE LEADERSHIP ATTITUDE
There are some attractive attitudes a leader ought to possess – and not just a leader but a follower, who, one day should become a leader – that we must make part of ourselves, because they are paramount, they are important and they’ll make us influential.
I would love you to take a mental picture of the Lion as we shall dwell shortly on it. The lion is the king of the Jungle. He rules the land kingdom. The lion has an attitude of leadership. The lion is not the tallest, largest, heaviest or smartest animal in the Jungle. The lion is not larger than the elephant, not taller than the giraffe, not smarter than the hyena or the snake; yet, when he shows up they all run away. What makes the lion so unique?
A lion sees an elephant and the thing that comes to his mind is “food”. He acts the way he thinks! The size is not the problem because he acts the way he thinks. Also, when the elephant sees the lion, one word comes to his mind, “eater”, the elephant is controlled by the way he thinks….
An Attitude of Perception – An attractive leadership attitude to have is an attitude of perception. You must know who you are. The lion knows who he is and believes in what he is. Attitude is a product of belief, you cannot have an attitude beyond your belief. The attitude of leadership can transform cowards into warriors. In Luke 1:5-25, we see an account of a priest, Zechariah, who was promised a child at his old age and he asked a very doubtful question: “How can I be sure?”
Zechariah had a wrong attitude of perception that even when an angel of God – a sign which should have been more than enough to believe – appeared to him, he still wanted something more. Zechariah was just as he thought in his heart and so were the other spies sent to view the land the children of Israel were to inhabit. They concluded they were grasshoppers.
An Attitude of Purpose – Why you think you exist is as important as who you think you are. A very good attractive leadership attitude is an attitude of purpose. It is an attitude that has a personal initiative, it is creative and innovative.
An Attitude of Significance – An attractive attitude of purpose gives birth to an attitude of significance. You cannot be significant in anything you do until you have the right mind-set. When you have the right attitude of significance, you attain a certain level of self esteem; else, you wind up with a broken self image.
ATTRACTIVE SERVANTHOOD ATTITUDE
You don’t know you are a servant until you have been treated like one. Many of us want to become leaders but we forget our attitudes at the door. We forget that leadership itself is all about serving and not necessarily about being at the top of everything. Sometimes, it is all about the little things and less about the many things. If you want to be a Christian with an attractive attitude, then you must possess these.
An attitude focused on NEED SERVICE and not TIME SERVICE. A servant doesn’t place significance in the time he has or allocated to do a task, he focuses on the need; the importance and why this task needs to be done.
An attitude that is focused on COMMITMENT and not CONVENIENCE – 2 Kings 17. Sometimes, like the people in the passage, we want just enough God to keep the lions away. We want just enough God to keep the devil away. We want to be connected to God but not committed to God.
An attitude that is focused on HUMILITY and not SUPERIORITY. Yes! It is not always about recognition but sacrifices. Sometimes, we focus too much on the pulpit rather than on the pew, too much on the stage lights rather than the little lights.
CONCLUSION
“Find a man with the right attitude and give him empowerment, and the people will become obedient”. We all need the right attitude to succeed in all areas of our lives. We all need an attractive attitude, an aura that compels, a scent that is irresistible; so that we can make a significant impact on our lives and the lives of others today. What is your attitude? Develop an Attractive Attitude today!
