INTRODUCTION
God, the designer, and owner of life has a standard for human relationship with Him and with one another.
This lifestyle is binding on all human beings who live under the sun. But man, fell short of this lifestyle from the garden of Eden and as a result, those who obey and do the will of God are given the standard of life to live (Lev 11:44,45; I Pet. 1:15,16).
What then is holy living? The word holy translated from the Greek word hagiasmos (hag-ee-as-mos) means holiness, sanctification, or separation to God (1 Cor. 1:30, Rom. 6:19-22; 2 Thess. 2:13; 2 Cor. 7:1).
It is the divine nature of God based on His absolute perfection, purity, goodness, faithfulness, majesty, truthfulness, righteousness, glory, and greatness.
To us, it is a sacred character, godliness, righteousness, or moral uprightness, exhibited in Christian living which includes love, peace, faith, forgiveness, and so on, but we shall admonish ourselves with hymn 343 written by W.D. Longstaff – Take Time To Be Holy, on how to maintain and sustain this lifestyle.
Speak often with the Lord. Abide in Him always, and feed on His word.
We must talk to God always in prayers about His lifestyle, remain in Him, and dwell on His word as the source and solid base for holy living (1 Thess. 5:17; Matt. 4:4, Colossians 3:16,17; John 15:4,5 – Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing).
Make friends of God’s children. Help the weak, forgetting nothing, seeking His blessing
We are to make friends with and help people, especially Christians seeking God’s blessing in everything (Matthew 5:14-16; 1 Cor 15:33; Galatians 6:9,10; Acts 20:35; Philippians 4:19; Eph. 3:20-21; Psalms 1:1-3 – Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
The world rushes on. Spend much time with Jesus alone. Looking to Jesus and be like Him.
Sinful and wicked activities of man are on the increase, study and meditate on God’s word using Christ as standard and live like Him (Matt. 24:12; 2 Tim. 3:1-7; Col. 3:16; Psalms 1:2; 119:9-11; Heb. 12:2; Eph. 4:24 – and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness).
Be calm in your soul. Your thoughts, speech and action, should be under His control, and the Spirit leading you to the fountains of love (heavenly living).
Christians must be patient allowing the Holy Spirit to influence whatever they think, say or do to produce fruit of the Spirit (love) for heavenly [holy] lifestyle (Rom. 5:3-4; Col. 3:17; Rom. 8:14; Rom. 5:5; Gal. 5:22; 1 Cor. 15:24).
CONCLUSION
Brethren, pursue peace with all men, and without holiness no man will see God (Hebrews 12:14). If we must inherit eternal life hereafter, we must live a holy life herewith for no filthy thing will enter heaven (Revelation 21:27).
